Psalm 51 – August 6

Read the passages this week and think about these questions Psalm 51 2 Samuel 11:1-12:14 1 John 1:5-10   Compared to David, do you feel you are a great sinner? Compared to God’s Word, are you a great sinner? It is important to acknowledge sin, but why are we so reluctant to confess our sin at times? What words does David use for sin? What does He ask God to do about his sin? After receiving God’s forgiveness, what should…

Gospel Groups

As we grow in the gospel, we must realize our need for one another in this process.  As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another (Prov. 27:17).  We need to spur one another on to love and good deeds (Heb. 10:24-25). We must encourage one another to grow in the gospel continually.  But what does that really look like? As believers, we talk about the gospel often, but do we really know what it is and why we need…

Parental Nags

If parents nag about everything, children will not listen to anything. Main Points Col. 3:21 – Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. Prov. 25:24 – It is better to live in a corner of the roof than in a house shared with a quarrelsome woman. If parents nag about everything, children will not listen to anything. Let your “yes” be so frequent that your “no” stands out. Choose the parental hills you wish to die upon.

Psalm 146 – July 30

Read the passages this week and think about these questions Psalm 146 Acts 12:1-11 John 9:1-11 Psalm 1 Exodus 22:21-24   What does Psalm 146 exhort us to do? What did the psalmist do with his life and what should we do with our life? Regardless of the situation or circumstance, are you prepared to praise the Lord? How do verses 3-4 in Psalm 146 contrast to verses 1-2? Why can we look to God for help and hope? Are…

Pray, Give, and Go

We had the wonderful privilege to hear from a couple of missionaries tonight.  One is on a stateside furlough and another is preparing to launch out.  It is so important for them and for us to stay connected to what the Lord is doing overseas! While not every person is called to live on mission overseas, all Christians are called to be in the missional reconciliation business (2 Cor. 5:20). Here’s how we unpacked ways to be involved in the…

Devoted to Prayer

The New Testament teaches believers to be devoted to prayer. That sounds noble and all, but what exactly does that mean? We see it used 5 times in the New Testament concerning prayer: Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. -Romans 12:12 Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. -Col. 4:2 All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. -Acts 1:14 And they devoted themselves to…

Bridges and Community

What’s the purpose of a bridge? If you look at a definition, a bridge is a structure that carries a road, path, railroad, or canal across an obstacle like a ravine, ravine, road, or railroad. A bridge helps you get where you want to be if you are traveling. Think about bridges in your church – places which help people get from where they are to where they need to be or should be. Let’s take a look at four…
