SING: We are Commanded to Sing!

The Bible does not say “Thou Shalt Sing” but… it does admonish us to sing! Psalm 96:1-2 [1] Oh sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth! [2] Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Psalm 96:1-2(ESV) Psalm 149:1-2 [1] Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the godly! [2] Let Israel be glad in his Maker;…

RC Senior Salvation Bracelet Success

Today, February 20, a large group of our RC Seniors gathered in the Fellowship Hall to put together Salvation Bracelets that our team will carry to Brazil in June.  As usual, when our Seniors get together, there is a lot of fun and fellowship, but they worked hard as well.  2,000 salvation bracelets were made by the 80 people who showed up to work.  The hotdog lunch afterwards was a lot of fun as well. If you are not a…

Prayer and Discipleship

A personal prayer habit is vitally important in the life of a disciple maker.  Not only does it remind us of our dependence upon God for sanctification, but we must also model healthy prayer disciplines in our discipleship of others. We learn how to pray by praying. Download Handout – PD 07 – Prayer and Discipleship Reasons We Fail to Pray Lack of Faith – We are doers by default.  Relying on a God we cannot see with requests we…

Bible Reading Plan for Week of February 18

On Paul’s way to Athens in Acts 17, he stopped and shared about Christ in Thessalonica.  He wasn’t well received, but he persevered to fulfill God’s purpose for him.  As we continue reading through the NT, we’ll read 1 and 2 Thessalonians this week, and on Saturday and Sunday we’ll focus on the Scriptures for our Gospel Groups and the Sunday sermon.  Please consider the questions below regarding the Scriptures for our Gospel Groups. Sunday, February 18 – Colossians 1:1 – 4:18 Monday,…

Upcoming Study – The Divine Mentor

Do you need a mentor to help you with marriage, ministry, parenting, school, or just life in general?  Ultimately, God is our “Divine Mentor”, but in His Word He has given us many other mentors who can help us throughout our lives, as well. During this 8 week study (Wednesdays April 11-May 30 from 6:30-7:30pm in room 342) we will read Wayne Cordeiro’s book, The Divine Mentor, and we will put its truths into practice.  The goal is not for…

PWC Construction Project

The Grove Road Construction project for the new Piedmont Women’s Center is moving along.  They are ready to pour the concrete slab and then it is time to start framing the 8,000 square foot clinic.  There are some opportunities for our RC family to participate. If you have construction experience, are a carpenter, are a skilled framer; If you are willing to serve as a go-fer (go-fer this, go-fer that) and carry materials for those who are working; If you…

SING: Created to Sing!

SING: Created to Sing! Psalm 139:13-14 (ESV) [13] For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. [14] I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. Singing starts in the heart: Ephesians 5:19 (ESV) [19] addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, “Christian singing starts in the heart not the…

What are Epistles?

Have you ever wondered what the “epistles” are? We have heard people talk about them in church, but have we ever stopped to understand what they are?  Essentially, the epistles are personal letters written to churches and individuals. Elmer Towns says, “While they follow the typical form of first-century letters in the Roman world, they uniquely express Christian truth.”  These authors wrote to express great truths of the Christian faith. They also wrote to explain how a Christian should exhibit…

Scripture Memory and Discipleship

While reading Scripture is vitally important, oftentimes, we forget what we have read as soon as we have closed our Bibles.  The lost of art of meditating and memorizing Scripture is a key discipline in the life of the disciple. We must discipline our minds to have the words of the Bible accessible even when a copy of the Bible is not available. Bible Reading Plan for Week of February 11

We studied Acts 16 in our Gospel Groups and discovered that Paul and Silas traveled to Philippi and presented truth to at least three individuals.  The gospel message was received and it starts bearing much fruit.  The church at Philippi is formed and Paul has a strong affection for this body of believers.  Therefore, we’ll read through Paul’s letter to the Philippians this week and then on Saturday and Sunday, we’ll focus on the Scriptures for our Gospel Groups and the Sunday sermon.  Please consider the questions…

3 Reasons College Students Need the Church

Setting the Bar In high school, I read a book that changed my outlook on life. Alex and Brett Harris’ Do Hard Things was not just a book that helped motivate me, but it changed my goals in life. Even when the culture expects teenagers to sit at home and play video games after school and not care about much else, the book challenged teenagers not to waste their adolescent years but instead to be who God has called them to be. The…

SING

SING! by Keith and Kristyn Getty I recently read this gem by Keith and Kristyn Getty. After reading it, I felt this was something that I needed to share with our music ministry. I bought each member of our choir a copy of the book. Over an eight week period, we walked through this book together and talked about the principles and challenges that book presented. Over the next weeks, I will be posting what I shared in our time…

David’s Table and E210 Ministry

Help the kids with David’s Table and E210 by serving a meal at their Monday evening meeting.  What a great group of kids and what a simple way to show the love of Christ by simply preparing a simple meal and serving it to some kids so they can hear the message of Christ. There are about 50 kids and about 30 adults who attend.  Plan to be set up and ready to serve the meal by 5:20 (this is…

Bible Study and Discipleship

A key component in personal discipleship is the practice of spiritual disciplines.  Spiritual disciplines are not meant to make you more liked by Jesus but more like Jesus.  We discipline ourselves for the purpose of godliness (1 Tim. 4:7). No discipline is more important than regular Bible study because it encourages every other spiritual discipline.
