Mentoring Ministry at Perry Correctional

We had an incredible time of ministry in prison on Sunday.  For those interested in serving more, we want to remind you of the training the chaplain shared.  If you can’t come this week, there will be another time, but here is the information you need to know. Mentoring Ministry at Perry Greetings Friends, If you are interested in the Mentoring Ministry at Perry and still have not been able to attend a training session for this….. THIS IS YOUR…

Jesus’ Prayer for His Church

When Jesus spoke of His Church, He spoke of a people and not a building (Matt. 16:18).  We are not called to come to church but to be the Church. In John 17, we get insight into how Jesus prayed for the universal Church and how that applies to each expression of a local church.  Our hearts should be comforted by the fact that – of all people – Jesus Christ has prayed for us as a church. The better…

Bible Reading Plan for Week of June 24

This week we will read through Philemon, which we will study July 8, and Colossians, which we will look at July 1.  “Paul wrote the letter to the church at Colossae when he learned through Epaphras that heretical teachings were running through the church.  Paul’s letter pointed the church to the person and work of Jesus Christ.  The cross of Christ is not merely a theory for theologians to ponder; it’s a real-life, real-time reality that heals, restores, and reconciles.…

Let’s Give the Gospel of Mark to the Hunsrik People

As we study through the Gospel of Mark together as a church, my personal life has been deeply impacted.  I have grown so much by studying the message and ministry of Jesus that I can’t imagine not having the ability to read this book. 3 million Hunsrik people of Brazil do not have the Gospel of Mark in their language.  We need to do something about it. As we studied, I really wanted to help other people around the world…

Prison Ministry Instructions

I asked for 20 men to follow me to Perry Correctional, and the Lord sent 40.  As we go Sunday, let’s prayerfully anticipate what the Lord will do in our midst. As soon as the 10:30 services are over, we will gather together in the multipurpose room down the hall from the sanctuary.  Someone is fixing some lunch bags for us to take and go.  You can ride separate or come along in the caravan. Here are some important instructions…

Parenting Post #6

A Post by Shawn Piedrahita (NGU Student) Principle: You need to parent with a Process Mentality      When does parenting finish? Has a parent completed their God-given duty when their child graduates high school, college, or gets married? According to Paul David Tripp, a parent’s job is never finished. In fact, He labels this as having a Process Mentality. In his book on Parenting, Tripp defines parenting as “unfinished people being used by God as agents of transformation in the…

How Hospitality Changed Rosaria Butterfield’s Life

I shared in today’s sermon about the need for a gospel-based hospitality.  I told briefly about the testimony of Rosaria Butterfield.  Here is a synopsis in her own words. Based on the book, “The Gospel Comes With a House Key” Learn more here.

Bible Reading Plan for Week of June 17

This week we will read through two New Testament books – Jude and Philippians.  Jude, the half-brother of Jesus, “calls the church to fight, in the midst of intense spiritual warfare, for the truth.”  He confronts apostasy, the defection from true, biblical faith.  The church must stand in truth today, as well.  In Philippians, we’ll discover that we can have joy regardless of our circumstances.  Paul writes from prison to encourage the church at Philippi to continue walking with God…

Bible Reading Plan for Week of June 10

This week we will continue our journey through Second Corinthians.  On his missionary journeys Paul had served in Corinth and shared the gospel in this prominent city of Greece.  He is now writing to this body of believers to “urge them to prepare for his impending visit by completing the collection they had started a year previously and by dealing with the troublemakers [false teachers who infiltrated the church] in their midst.  He warns them that he means what he…

Love Your Neighbor

Jesus told us in Mark 12 that we should “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength (and) ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”  That is easy to say, but not always seemingly easy to do.  Sometimes we really just want to pull into the garage, close the door, go inside and shut out the world.  But when we sit down and read God’s Word, we are constantly…

June Missions Prayer Newsletter

Several of our Mission Partners serve in areas with a large population of Muslim people.  The annual fast for Muslim people is called Ramadan, and is currently going on.  During this time (May 15 – June 14) a good Muslim will fast from food and drink from sunrise to sunset.  In this issue of the Missions Prayer Newsletter, several different partners make comments about how Ramadan affect their ministry.  Please be in prayer for them. Pray also for: Pray for…

Follow Pastor Travis to Prison

As we have studied in the Gospel of Mark, we have watched Jesus seek out those in the darkest of circumstances.  Unwilling to flinch at anyone’s situation, Jesus engaged the sinners and embraced the unclean. Part of discipleship is telling others to come along with you.  Men of Rocky Creek, I’m asking you to follow me to prison. We have an opportunity to help lead and participate in a Sunday afternoon worship service  at Perry Correctional Institute on June 24th.…

God’s Favorite Style of Church

Every Christian has their favorite style of church.  We all tend to gravitate towards a type of church that meets our desired preferences.  Have you ever thought about God’s favorite style of church?

Bible Reading Plan for Week of June 3

This week we will continue our journey through First and Second Corinthians.  On his missionary journeys Paul had served in Corinth and shared the gospel in this prominent city of Greece.  He is now writing letters back to this body of believers to help them understand and display proper Christian conduct in the church.  The Corinthians had many issues and problems, and Paul wants to help them mature in Christ and develop in sanctification.  We can learn much from these…
