Why the Gospel Project is Important

In an article entitled “8 Ways to Miss the Point of Small Group”, Kristen Wetherell states that the goal of groups should be “fellowship and encouragement around God’s Word.”  However, sometimes our groups don’t hit this goal, and she list 8 ways in which we miss the target. The Gospel Project curriculum which we will start using at Rocky Creek in September will not necessarily solve all the issues that Wetherell lists, but let me list some positives which will encourage…

Sharing the Gospel Using John 3:16

The following is a recap of GROW from this past Sunday night. John 3:16 is probably the most famous verse in the Bible and it presents the Gospel very clearly.  By using this one verse you can share with someone what the whole Bible is about. In the context of John 3, Nicodemus, a Pharisee, comes to Jesus at night and wants to know more about God.  There is a discussion about being born again and what this means.  Jesus tells…

Psalm 19 – July 16

Read the passages this week and think about these questions Psalm 19 Genesis 1 Romans 1:18-25   What can the works of God’s hand (creation) tell us about God Himself? What are synonyms for the Bible, the Word of God? How is the Word of God described and what does it do? What is the Word of God better than? Are you treasuring the Word of God more than wealth and fine food? What are the benefits of reading and…

Gospel Project – new curriculum for September 2017

This September we will start using a new Bible study curriculum at Rocky Creek.  Well, not really new, but new to Rocky Creek.  We wanted to find a curriculum that taught the Word of God and which allowed preschoolers, children, students, adults, and senior adults to study the same passage of Scripture each week.  We wanted a curriculum that was easy to use and had some online resources.  We found our answer in the Gospel Project from LifeWay. The Gospel Project has been published…

Psalm 95 – July 9

Read the passages this week and think about these questions Psalm 95 John 10:1-18 Exodus 17:1-7 Numbers 20:1-13; 27:12-14 Deuteronomy 32:48-52 Hebrews 3:1-7, 15; 4:3-7   Who should capture our focus, attention, and affections?  What does God want us to do? Why should we worship God?  Are you listening to God’s voice with a “soft” heart? Why is history important? Why is obedience to God important? Use Psalm 95:2-7 as a prayer to God

What is the Gospel Project?

The Gospel Project is a curriculum for preschoolers, children, students, and adults that is published by LifeWay.  It is “a Christ-centered, chronological study that will take [you] on a journey through the storyline of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation.  Along the way, [you] will discover the big picture of what God has been doing throughout redemptive history, and what it means for [you].” Each week we’ll investigate a passage of Scripture and discover how it points to Jesus.  We’ll also…

Basketball and the Gospel Project

I started playing basketball in elementary school, and I still enjoy playing today, although it is at a much slower pace.  However, for me to play basketball, my body has to work together to accomplish this goal.  First, my mind says that today is a good day to go to the gym and play,  Once I arrive, my legs take me onto the court.  Then, I use my hands to catch the ball, and I use my eyes to look at the basket. …

College Groups

Statistics say that many students who have grown up in the church decide to drop out once they get to college.  For whatever reason, for these students, being connected to a Bible study group and attending worship services are not high on their priority list.  However, at Rocky Creek we want college students to be an active, integral part of our church family. Therefore, we have two morning worship services (9:00am and 10:30am) and two opportunities for college age students to be…

Psalm 84 – July 2

Read the passages this week and think about these questions Psalm 84 Psalm 42   How are you demonstrating a longing for God and His truth? What is different about the God of the Bible as compared to false gods? (84:2) How is God described in Psalm 84? Why can we have confidence in God? Who are the blessed (happy) people? Are you blessed today? Do you desire God’s presence more than anything else? Are you trusting in God today…

Psalm 138 – June 25

Read the passages this week and think about these questions Psalm 138 Philippians 1:6; 2:9-11 Psalm 136   What is David’s response to God? Why does David give thanks and sing praises? What can you give thanks and praise for? How has God shown you His lovingkindness and truth? How has God answered your prayers? Why can David walk in confidence? How is God accomplishing His purpose in your life?

Psalm 23 – June 18

Read the passages this week and think about these questions Psalm 23 1 Samuel 17:1-58 John 10:1-18   How did David’s experience as a shepherd help him relate to God? What did David learn about God from his being a shepherd? What does this Psalm teach us about God?     Can you give a one word description of God or what He does for us for each phrase/sentence in Psalm 23? Does Psalm 23:6 describe the desire of your life? Because…
