Multiply Churches

The Multiply Initiative is our simple yet aggressive plan to multiply disciples.  As we make disciples within our own church, our prayer is that we will see growth in our church and in the churches we plant or replant. PD 15 – Multiply Churches Multiplication Values We believe a church multiplication model is a process that shows these important values: Biblical Faithfulness – The Great Commission expects us not to work to see how many attendees we have gathered but…

Why Preach Through Mark?

I am preparing to preach through the Gospel of Mark at our church.  As I prepared the series, it is going to take 1 year to preach through this Gospel.  While there are 4 Gospels in the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John – same story but told from different perspectives), I have chosen to preach through this one for a few different reasons. Greatest Example – To become disciple-makers, we need to study the life of the original…

Serve at the Soup Kitchen

The Project Host Soup Kitchen offers a balanced, nutritious meal each day in a safe, clean and caring environment to all who are hungry. They serve approximately 130 of our less fortunate neighbors six days a week.  Meals are offered to anyone who comes through the door, no questions asked.  For some, it is the only meal they will receive on any given day; for others, the meals help alleviate difficult decisions, such as whether to pay the energy bill…

Multiply Yourself

The Multiply Initiative is our simple yet aggressive plan to multiply disciples.  While we can multiply programs, events, services, and churches, the heart of strategy plan is when disciples begin to multiply themselves. If a new Christian simply replicated your life, would you be pleased with his or her maturity? PD 14 – Multiply Yourself Gathering Disciples Jesus first called disciples (Mark 1:14-20) and eventually transformed them into apostles (Mark 3:13-19).  These students became the sent out ones.  Here were…

Seminary Courses for 2018

The Equip Network seeks to empower local churches and ministry organizations to take an active role in the theological education of their students. With our partnership with Southeastern, a degree-seeking student will be able to earn up to 36 hours of practical graduate-level, seminary (through Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary) or collegiate credits (through the College at Southeastern) and practical ministry experience. While a student cannot fulfill all degree requirements at Rocky Creek, we will serve as a satellite campus where…

Multiply Disciples

The Multiply Initiative is our simple yet aggressive plan to multiply disciples.  Our church is an established church with almost two centuries of discipleship work.  As we go forward during this time, we wanted to simplify our strategy as a church and clarify our expectations for our covenant members. PD 13 – Multiply Disciples The Great Commission Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the…

Overcoming Temptation

A critical element in discipleship is training someone how to overcome temptation.  While everyone is tempted, particular people are more prone to certain temptations than others. In order to overcome temptation, let’s identify Satan’s strategy, Jesus’ success, and our steps needed to succeed. Download Handout – PD 11 – Overcoming Temptation Satan’s Strategy Satan’s strategy is first seen in Genesis 3, and he doesn’t need to modify his steps since it continues to work. Initiation – Satan proactively approaches us to…

We’re Adding Another Service [En Español]

We are excited to announce that we need to add another service at Rocky Creek Church – [En Español]! While Rocky Creek opened up their doors in the past for other churches to use our facilities, we are now opening up the family.  We are now a church with 3 services – 2 in English and 1 in Spanish!  We will give you more details in the weeks to come, but we are excited to continue following Jesus to reach this…

Silence, Solitude, and Sabbath

In our fast-paced society and our continuously-loud distractions, our eyes, ears, bodies, minds, hearts, and souls need margin. The disciplines of silence, solitude, and Sabbath are meant to provide renewal for the disciple. Download Handout – PD 10 – Silence Solitude and Sabbath Silence The spiritual discipline of silence is pursued to experience separation from constant noise and distraction. It is difficult to study the Bible, pray the Bible, or memorize the Bible among noise and interruptions. Unlike any other time…

Update on Forward Campus Plan

As Rocky Creek plans to move forward as a church, we have shared exciting plans as we continue to make disciples. Part of our task was to update our campus for increased flexibility to address the growing number of people God is sending our way. In December, Rocky Creek committed to a 4-phase building program to address our needs. In less than 3 months since we began, we have some incredible news to share. Phase 1 focuses on updating our…

Forward Campus Update

In December 2017, Rocky Creek decided to go forward with a campus plan that focused on flexible ministry growth. We desire to maximize our current and future impact by: updating the sanctuary, upgrading our playground, remodeling flexible meeting spaces, and renovating the hub of our campus as a place of connection for our church. While you might not see a lot of progress yet, a lot is being made.  Let me update you on where we are: The architects are…

Fasting and Discipleship

Fasting is an important and yet overlooked spiritual discipline.  While most disciplines encourage people to do something, fasting encourages people to do without something. Fasting is the voluntary denial of physical food for spiritual purposes.  Download Handout – PD 08 – Fasting and Discipleship Understanding a Biblical Fast Fasting is not a sacred diet. Fasting is not a manipulative tactic. Fasting is not a mystical superstition. Fasting is denying the flesh to seek the spiritual. Fasting is valuing the feasting on…

Prayer and Discipleship

A personal prayer habit is vitally important in the life of a disciple maker.  Not only does it remind us of our dependence upon God for sanctification, but we must also model healthy prayer disciplines in our discipleship of others. We learn how to pray by praying. Download Handout – PD 07 – Prayer and Discipleship Reasons We Fail to Pray Lack of Faith – We are doers by default.  Relying on a God we cannot see with requests we…

Scripture Memory and Discipleship

While reading Scripture is vitally important, oftentimes, we forget what we have read as soon as we have closed our Bibles.  The lost of art of meditating and memorizing Scripture is a key discipline in the life of the disciple. We must discipline our minds to have the words of the Bible accessible even when a copy of the Bible is not available. Download Handout – PD 06 – Scripture Memory and Discipleship The Power of Scripture Memory When Joshua was…

Bible Study and Discipleship

A key component in personal discipleship is the practice of spiritual disciplines.  Spiritual disciplines are not meant to make you more liked by Jesus but more like Jesus.  We discipline ourselves for the purpose of godliness (1 Tim. 4:7). No discipline is more important than regular Bible study because it encourages every other spiritual discipline.
