August’s Focus: Groups

It’s a new month and that means it’s time for a new focus for the leadership at Rocky Creek.  Each month, we are focusing on a specific area to really develop as a church body.  Just to catch you up, here’s what we have been focusing on at Rocky Creek: January: Pastor – I am so thankful you allowed me to be your pastor! February: Website – The staff did a wonderful job at overhauling the website and the content…

Creation & Revelation

Psalm 19 is a key passage to help explain how we learn about the character and nature of God. Creation tells us there is a God.  Revelation tells us what he is like [Ps. 19:1, 7]. If you read Psalm 19:1-6, the psalmist proclaims that creation shows us that God exists.  Most people look at a night sky or a beautiful landscape on earth and proclaims, “How could anyone not believe there is a God?”  Creation takes us that far…

4 Months in the Word

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.  -Ps. 119:105 As a pastor, there are so many things I would love to see happen in our church.  My prayers focus on many things I would like to see be transformed within our lives, our homes, our church, and our community.  As I have prayed, I have come to a realization: Any good desire I have for our church originates from the Bible. My hope…

Family Reconciliation

When a family relationship is strained, how does the Bible expect you to respond? Main Points Rom. 12:18 Heb. 12:18 Col. 3:13 If it is your fault, seek forgiveness.  (James 5:16) If it isn’t your fault, offer forgiveness.  (Matt. 5:23-24)

Gospel Groups

As we grow in the gospel, we must realize our need for one another in this process.  As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another (Prov. 27:17).  We need to spur one another on to love and good deeds (Heb. 10:24-25). We must encourage one another to grow in the gospel continually.  But what does that really look like? As believers, we talk about the gospel often, but do we really know what it is and why we need…

Parental Nags

If parents nag about everything, children will not listen to anything. Main Points Col. 3:21 – Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. Prov. 25:24 – It is better to live in a corner of the roof than in a house shared with a quarrelsome woman. If parents nag about everything, children will not listen to anything. Let your “yes” be so frequent that your “no” stands out. Choose the parental hills you wish to die upon.

Pray, Give, and Go

We had the wonderful privilege to hear from a couple of missionaries tonight.  One is on a stateside furlough and another is preparing to launch out.  It is so important for them and for us to stay connected to what the Lord is doing overseas! While not every person is called to live on mission overseas, all Christians are called to be in the missional reconciliation business (2 Cor. 5:20). Here’s how we unpacked ways to be involved in the…

Hear Cassie and Rebecca’s Stories

“My name is Cassie Erickson, and I will be serving in Niger, Africa for at least the next two years. My job is to evangelize and hopefully help church plant among the Hausa people there.” I had the wonderful privilege to introduce you to our dear friend, Adeola, last week, and this Sunday night I get to share two other friends. One is Cassie Erickson who is getting ready to go with the International Mission Board, and another is Rebecca…

Devoted to Prayer

The New Testament teaches believers to be devoted to prayer. That sounds noble and all, but what exactly does that mean? We see it used 5 times in the New Testament concerning prayer: Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. -Romans 12:12 Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. -Col. 4:2 All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. -Acts 1:14 And they devoted themselves to…

Why We Memorize & How We Memorize

For years, I have told people the importance of memorizing Scripture, but I have never taught people how to memorize Scripture.  I want to help you know why we memorize Scripture and how we memorize Scripture. We must discipline our minds to have the Bible accessible even when the Bible is not available. Scripture memory is a powerful tool.  While you don’t know what you will encounter tomorrow, God’s Word has wisdom for all situations.  Will we be prepared when…

Hear Adeola’s Story

I had the privilege of meeting Adeola Adelere when she was a freshman in college.  Since that first encounter, she has become a dear friend and a part of our extended family. She has accepted God’s call to serve with the International Mission Board as a Journeyman missionary to Africa.  As she is collecting prayer partners for her journey, she has asked the Rocky Creek family to pray over her and for her as she goes. Come hear Adeola’s story…
