Parenting Post #6

A Post by Shawn Piedrahita (NGU Student) Principle: You need to parent with a Process Mentality      When does parenting finish? Has a parent completed their God-given duty when their child graduates high school, college, or gets married? According to Paul David Tripp, a parent’s job is never finished. In fact, He labels this as having a Process Mentality. In his book on Parenting, Tripp defines parenting as “unfinished people being used by God as agents of transformation in the…

Love Your Neighbor

Jesus told us in Mark 12 that we should “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength (and) ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”  That is easy to say, but not always seemingly easy to do.  Sometimes we really just want to pull into the garage, close the door, go inside and shut out the world.  But when we sit down and read God’s Word, we are constantly…

June Missions Prayer Newsletter

Several of our Mission Partners serve in areas with a large population of Muslim people.  The annual fast for Muslim people is called Ramadan, and is currently going on.  During this time (May 15 – June 14) a good Muslim will fast from food and drink from sunrise to sunset.  In this issue of the Missions Prayer Newsletter, several different partners make comments about how Ramadan affect their ministry.  Please be in prayer for them. Follow Pastor Travis to Prison

As we have studied in the Gospel of Mark, we have watched Jesus seek out those in the darkest of circumstances.  Unwilling to flinch at anyone’s situation, Jesus engaged the sinners and embraced the unclean. Part of discipleship is telling others to come along with you.  Men of Rocky Creek, I’m asking you to follow me to prison. We have an opportunity to help lead and participate in a Sunday afternoon worship service  at Perry Correctional Institute on June 24th.…

God’s Favorite Style of Church

Every Christian has their favorite style of church.  We all tend to gravitate towards a type of church that meets our desired preferences.  Have you ever thought about God’s favorite style of church?

We’re Getting There [Waypoint 2018 Highlights]

We’re not there yet, but we’re getting there. Like the waypoint on a map marking the progress along a journey, we want to acknowledge all that is happening as we follow Jesus.  We celebrate what Jesus has been doing at Rocky Creek, but we also look forward to what He will continue to do.  As we go forward, here are some things that you need to know at this Waypoint in May of 2018. Summer Schedule In addition to our…

GO Teams for the Summer of 2018

This summer, our church family will once again seek to GO and serve during our Wednesday evenings.  We will start on June 27 by meeting in the Fellowship Hall at 6:30 to pray and prepared.  Then on July 11 we will spend 5 Wednesday evenings, until August 8, going and serving in various ways. Some of these options are limited to rather specific skill sets, and some are pretty much open to anyone and any age.  If you are not…

Graduate Milestones

It is graduation time! It’s a time to honor, celebrate, and reflect on your child’s successes. It is your child’s time to shine. They have completed a milestone for sure. They have worked hard, made grades, finished projects, played on multiple sports teams, served on academic clubs, been a part of school activities, and have made a ton of memories and experiences. Many of those experiences have taught them lessons, many they cherish and some they wish not to repeat.…

Principles of Giving

By Alex Gore (NGU Student) The Principles of Biblical Giving: Three Principles. In II Corinthians 8 and 9, Paul gives three principles of cheerful giving and lists the qualities of a good steward. Paul challenges the Church at Corinth to give generously like the churches did in Macedonia that gave out of their joy. Here are the three principles: Give first to God and then to others (2 Cor. 8:5 esv). When you observe both the Old and New Testament…

May Parenting Principle #5

Principle: If you are not resting as a parent in your identity in Christ, you will look for identity in your children.  Sometimes we may not think about it, but as Paul Tripp says, we “do it every single day.”  He further says, “Your parenting is always shaped by where you look for identity.” Our parenting will reveal where we find our identity. This post will highlight some of the struggles that we as parents go through as we seek…

Prepared For Battle

by Shawn Piedrahita (NGU Student) In Ephesians 6, Paul implores the Ephesian Christians to “put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil” (6:11). Though spoken to the Ephesian church, Paul’s wisdom still applies to modern-day Christian as a call to arms against “the spiritual forces of evil” (6:12). The Belt of Truth: In John 14:6, Jesus states “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to…

Walking In The Spirit

A Post By Emily Phillips, NGU Student. What does it mean to walk by the Spirit? In Galatians 5, Paul talks about what it means to keep in step with the Spirit. Paul tells us how to live by the Spirit: reject the desires of the flesh and practice the fruits of the Spirit. Paul says is in verse 16: “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh”. We are…

Multiply Churches

The Multiply Initiative is our simple yet aggressive plan to multiply disciples.  As we make disciples within our own church, our prayer is that we will see growth in our church and in the churches we plant or replant. PD 15 – Multiply Churches Multiplication Values We believe a church multiplication model is a process that shows these important values: Biblical Faithfulness – The Great Commission expects us not to work to see how many attendees we have gathered but…
