RC Senior Salvation Bracelet Success

Today, February 20, a large group of our RC Seniors gathered in the Fellowship Hall to put together Salvation Bracelets that our team will carry to Brazil in June.  As usual, when our Seniors get together, there is a lot of fun and fellowship, but they worked hard as well.  2,000 salvation bracelets were made by the 80 people who showed up to work.  The hotdog lunch afterwards was a lot of fun as well. If you are not a…

What are Epistles?

Have you ever wondered what the “epistles” are? We have heard people talk about them in church, but have we ever stopped to understand what they are?  Essentially, the epistles are personal letters written to churches and individuals. Elmer Towns says, “While they follow the typical form of first-century letters in the Roman world, they uniquely express Christian truth.”  These authors wrote to express great truths of the Christian faith. They also wrote to explain how a Christian should exhibit…

February Parenting Principle #2

February Parenting Principle Principle # 2:  God never calls you to a task without giving you what you need to do it. He never sends you without going with you.  Parents often times feel discouraged, not equipped, and to be honest, unable to fulfill the task required of parenting.  This thinking will often times distract us to overlook things that are very important, namely that God gave us our particular children, and they are His gift to us on loan…

Reaching The Z’s (part 4 of 4)

REACHING THE Z’S ( Tips on Reaching them) Jim Burns from HomeWord Center for Youth and Family at Azusa Pacific university has some advice and ideas for us. Understand Them: As Burns notes, you can’t reach the Z’s unless you understand them and their world. He takes his cue from Paul in Acts 17:22-31, addressing the Greeks at Mars Hill. “He talked to them in their language,” says Burns. “We have to do the same with Generation Z. We’ve got to…

The Generation Z (part 3 of 4)

6-10 TRAITS OF Z NATION      What do we need to know about the kids in Generation Z?   They’re pretty independent.Gen Xers, repeatedly warned about “helicopter parenting,” have reacted by giving their kids—Z’s—plenty of space. This hands-off parenting has yielded both pros and cons. They’re aware of a troubled planet. Most Z’s have grown up since 9/11 and have only known a world where terrorist attacks are the norm. Additionally, they’ve lived through the Great Recession, and they’ve seen their parents,…

January Parenting Principle #1

January Parenting Principle    Principle #1: Nothing is more important in your life than being one of God’s tools to form a human soul. Many books and articles have been written about the subject of parenting. In fact, there are whole sections in bookstores focused solely on that topic.  Biblical parenting is much more than a topic, book, tips, and even strategies. We use those things to help us, but its more than that. Biblical parenting is a calling. God…

The Generation Z (part 2 of 4)

1-5 TRAITS OF Z NATION      What do we need to know about the kids in Generation Z? They’re everywhere.Gen Z—those born between 1996 and 2014—makes up 24.3 percent of the U.S. population, according to U.S. Census estimates for 2016. That’s more than millennials (22.1 percent), more than Gen X (19 percent), and more than baby boomers (22.9 percent). By 2020, The Washington Postsays, Z’s will have about $3 trillion in purchasing power. They’ve always been wired. They’ve never known a world without…

Upward Basketball and Cheer News

The latest Upward Basketball and Cheer season has already begun, and we have 279 children in grades K5 through 6th participating. This gives us an excellent opportunity to teach the gospel, not only to the children, but also their family and friends that come to see them play and cheer. The Apostle Paul said this in 1 Corinthians 3: “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.” The Upward ministry gives us the opportunity to both plant and…

The Generation Z (part 1 of 4)

The Z’s….. It’s not a Sleeping Giant. Who are the Z’s and how can the church reach this distracted generation? Each new generation of people gains a new name and exhibits certain characteristics. For instance, the Baby-Boomer generation is named after the group of people who was born between 1946-1964. They received this name because birth rates spiked after WWII, therefore their generation was deemed that title by sociologists. They also have certain characteristics that represent them, though not everyone…

The Gift That Keeps On Giving…The Gift Of Sanctification

Every Christmas people spend a lot of time and frustration trying to find that “perfect” gift. Many find this experience to be a hard feat.  Can someone really find the “perfect” gift? A gift that will never wear out, not break, not fade, not rust, not need fixing, not tear up, not have to be returned, or re-gifted? Just thinking about finding that perfect gift can bring anxiousness. In keeping true to the reason for the season, we do have a…

3 Key Areas for the Church Volunteer

Churches struggle with recruiting and retaining volunteers.  While it is challenging enough to recruit a sufficient amount of people to meet the needs, there is another problem that comes when you get them: What expectations do you have of the church’s volunteers?   I’m not talking about what time they show up and what job they perform.  I’m talking about the role that character and integrity plays as they representJesus and the church. If you struggle with recruiting enough volunteers,…

My Brothers, the Overcomers

The Overcomers were one of the main reasons our family felt drawn to Rocky Creek. If you don’t know who the Overcomers are, they are a 27-week, addiction recovery program with a twelve-step, Christian-based curriculum. The program offers group and individual counseling, Bible study, devotional services, classroom instruction, and seminars. Rocky Creek has a partnership with the Overcomers (a Miracle Hill Ministry).  As a part of their recovery, the men attend Rocky Creek for worship and for our Equip courses on…
