Every year, SC Baptist Churches are encouraged to collect money for a special offering in September to help support SC missions. It is called the Janie Chapman Missions Offering. The funds collected are used to help fund mission work in South Carolina, as well as throughout the world – through SC Baptists. The state goal for this offering is $1,800,000, and those funds are used in a number of different ways.
- SERVE– Needs Among The Lost
- SHARE – Hope With The Lost
- SEND – Workers To The Lost
- START – New Work To Reach The Lost
- STRENGTHEN – Churches To Engage The Lost
- ASSOCIATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS
- WOMEN’S MISSIONARY UNION
Over the next 2 weeks, there will be a number of web-posts to highlight of each of these seven areas. On Sunday, September 15, we will collect money for the Janie Chapman Offering. Over the last five years, Rocky Creek has collected an average of $2000 per year. As you read over the information in the posts, and pray for the mission work in South Carolina, consider if that $2000 is enough for Rocky Creek to send. Then bring your offering on September 15 to help support the Janie Chapman Missions Offering. Your gift can help pave the way for amazing ministry.
PAVE THE WAY
In every language there are what we call idioms, expressions that denote meaning far beyond the actual words. Those who are learning a new language can find these idioms challenging. The phrase “pave the way” is one such expression.
This phrase evokes a mental picture of road equipment preparing a new road. The idea behind the phrase is to “To create a situation in which it is easier for someone to do something or something to happen.”
As Moses prepared to hand over leadership to Joshua who would lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, he had a message for the people: God would pave the way! “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deuteronomy. 31:8 NIV).
In South Carolina missions, there are ministries which pave the way for people to hear the gospel. There are people who serve faithfully, paving the way for gospel opportunities. The Holy Spirit paves the way to prepare people to respond to the message of salvation. And you pave the way as you pray for state missions and as you give to the Janie Chapman Offering.
