The book of Nehemiah is closely tied to the book of Ezra. In Ezra there is a focus on the temple and torah, but in Nehemiah there is a focus on the city walls of Jerusalem. Nehemiah returns to the city and leads an effort to construct and establish the city walls. He overcomes opposition and by God’s grace the walls are built in a short amount of time. However, rebuilt walls are not the end. God desires to have “rebuilt”, new hearts among His people. He does not just want to bring about transformation in physical structures, but God wants to bring about spiritual transformation.
