Don’t Believe These Parenting Myths

Being a parent is hard work.  It takes a lot of time, knowledge, wisdom, patience, money, and so much more.  However, it is worth it because, “children are a gift from the Lord” (Psalm 127:3). God wants us to treasure these gifts and point them to the Gift-giver, God.  God desires that our children know Him and walk in His ways, but there is an enemy who wants to discourage and frustrate us in our teaching and training in godliness. In…

What Jesus Said About Children

The four gospels contain the life and ministry of Jesus the Christ.  Within three years of organized ministry before his death and resurrection, he preached many sermons and shared many parables.  In a time before podcasts and YouTube, his teachings have endured due to the life-changing paradigm with which he spoke. In all that he taught, Jesus also deemed it necessary to speak about children. He spoke of children five times in his recorded ministry.  Understanding what Christ thinks about…

Increasing Biblical Literacy

We are currently going through a sermon series at Rocky Creek called “The Word Off Our Shelves and Into Our Lives” and we are on day 40 on our 100 Day Bible Reading Plan.  The goal of both of these is to give us an understanding of the major theme of the Bible and to see how it is one connected narrative, not a bunch of disconnected stories. Hit the Road and Encourage Your Child’s Teacher

We don’t need one more thing to do, but what if your family could be on mission without putting a specific event on your calendar? What? That doesn’t make sense? Sure it does! Look at the stories of Jesus in the Bible. Jesus most often just encountered people along the way – as He walked along the road. Our Rocky Creek children’s ministry wants to partner with parents as we begin to focus on missions as a lifestyle. Our “Music…

3 Key Areas for the Church Volunteer

Churches struggle with recruiting and retaining volunteers.  While it is challenging enough to recruit a sufficient amount of people to meet the needs, there is another problem that comes when you get them: What expectations do you have of the church’s volunteers?   I’m not talking about what time they show up and what job they perform.  I’m talking about the role that character and integrity plays as they representJesus and the church. If you struggle with recruiting enough volunteers,…

Jesus Set an Example for us as a Servant

This past Sunday in our Gospel Groups we looked at John 13.  Jesus is hours away from His crucifixion, and He takes up the position of a servant at the Passover meal.  The Master and Teacher should not be the one to wash the disciples feet.  However, Jesus puts a towel around his waist and fills a basin with water.  He then wipes the dust and dirt from the feet of the men who have walked with Him for the last three years. …
